The Latest Relaxed Playlist Ignites Heated Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh playlist called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several key adjustments:
- Every squad has just eight human participants, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
- Actions done by real players grant complete experience points, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
- Only two locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Elements like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.
So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it gives more options for gamers looking for alternative ways to enjoy the title. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are upset.
Player Responses: Anger to Support
"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," while another details everything they consider to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this title all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds another. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Concerns and Community Feedback
All that said, players have constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it will make wait times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. Similarly, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the community compromising halfway, according to forum feedback. A different user describes this mode as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?
If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and acting on feedback. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data shows this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
