The Details Known Concerning the Those Lost of the Bondi Beach Terror Attack
At least 16 individuals lost their lives and in excess of 40 were hurt when attackers opened fire at a Hanukah celebration at Bondi Beach, an attack local authorities have called a terrorist attack.

Eli Schlanger
London-born clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first to be publicly identified.
Reportedly a father of five children, he was the associate rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Relatives and friends spoke of him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very kind and sociable person who loved to help people”.
“How can a happy rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, lose his life in this way?” a family member asked.
Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the birth of their newest son just a few months ago.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman was also among those killed, according to his wife.
She recounted the events leading up to the attack, explaining they were standing when the gunfire started. “He moved to protect me because he wanted to stay near me,” she stated.
The couple were both survivors of the Holocaust, having faced unspeakable terror in their childhood. They had subsequently moved to Australia from Ukraine.
Dan Elkayam
French foreign ministry have announced that French national Dan Elkayam is among the dead.
Officially, a senior official declared that France shared the grief of his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This low act is a new, tragic manifestation of a revolting outpouring of antisemitic hatred that we must eradicate,” the statement read.
One Child
A 10-year-old girl who was taken to the Sydney Children’s Hospital is among those who had died, according to police reports.
One Israeli Citizen
A national of Israel was also killed during the attack, according to reports referencing the Israeli foreign ministry.
Those Injured
Of the 42 people transported to hospitals, many are still under care, with five in serious condition. Those hurt include two police officers who attended the scene.
A casualty is a bystander who attempted to intervene to confront one of the gunmen. Described as a hero, he sustained bullet wounds but is recovering well in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a public affairs professional. Reports indicate he was injured and underwent treatment in hospital.
Communicating, he recounted the scene as an “utter carnage,” but also praised the response of those who rushed to help. He stated he felt it was a “miracle” he survived.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was another casualty in the attack. He said he heard “dozens and dozens” of gunshots.
“Initially, I believed it was rubber bullets, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he explained. “I was hit. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
