Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for United

The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be building positive momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
