Former Physician Charged with Assault Charges Against 38 Individuals in His Care

Prosecutors report that a former doctor stands accused of performing assaults against 38 individuals who were under his care.

The Serious Charges

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of numerous sexual offences – comprising acts against children younger than 13 – spanning the period from 2017 to 2021.

A senior CPS official commented, “Legal teams have worked at length to support a detailed and complex investigation, carefully reviewing the available evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

Scope of the Police Inquiry

These allegations come after what investigators described as a “complex investigation” into reported assaults at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and a facility in Dudley.

The defendant is due to appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.

Breakdown of Offences

Prosecutors said the 45 charges include:

  • Fifteen counts of sexual assault.
  • 17 counts of penetrative assault.
  • 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • One count of attempting to assault by penetration.

Authorities are urging anyone with concerns to contact the investigating team.
