Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot conceded that it's understandable for questions to be asked about his future following a further heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in 12 games, marking the club's worst run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I have got a lot of support from the top,” the coach remarked.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I accept my role. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “In the normal exchanges I sense the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them after this game yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Problems and Player Response
The manager highlighted known failings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder said.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a phase such as this with outcomes so bad.”
Jones stated, “However we still have the crest on our shirts. And until it is gone, we’re always going to fight.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to its rightful place, prove once more what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it must improve.”
